Anya Gallaccio's Ghost Tree | Public Art
Inspired by the removal of a decaying tree, Anya Gallaccio's sculptural commission for the Whitworth, led the artist to investigate themes of life, death and nature. Working from digital scans of the removed tree, she reproduced in ribbons of complex stainless steel plates, a monumental and reflective ‘ghost tree’. It's become a haunting response to loss and a timeless monument to nature.

Dr Leanne Green is Assistant Curator (Fine Art) at The Whitworth, The University of Manchester. She previously held a curatorial position at Henry Moore Institute, Leeds. She has completed an AHRC-funded Collaborative Doctorial Award in Visual Culture with Art Department, Imperial War Museum and Manchester School of Art and holds an MA in Art Gallery and Museum Studies from the University of Leeds.
